installed win xp now it says no sound card

i have just recently installed win xp on my computer and ever since then it says there is no sound device. i have a sound card already in my pc but how do i get windows to find it. thanks

go to the the control panel and look in the system settings. You should see the it under the sound devices as either having a red 'x' or a yellow '!'
If the device type is not recognised it may appear under the question mark '?' as other devices. If it there are none of these symbols in the system settings and all the devices appear to be installed, then make sure the card is enabled in the bios.

Is the sound card onboard? If it isn't, make sure it is seated properly in the PCI slot
