Cry no sound with AC'97!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have an AC'97 onboard audio controller, and the line out jack has ceased to give out any sound.
There are no problems with my speakers, sound is enabled in the bios, and everything appears in device manager to be working, but no sound. I have the latest drivers.
I can get sound though, if I use a 4 speaker configuration and plug the speakers into the line in jack, but this is only for video and music, doesn't work for games! and I would really like normal sound back.

Have you receintly made any major system changes like upgraded or reininstalled windows.

My first port of call would be that the drivers may have got corrupted (it happend to me receintly) just go to the site and download them and install them again.

If you can get some sound then I'd do as Anthony suggested and reinstall the drivers and then revert things back to default settings.
