Hardware setup for VOIP softphone
I am trying to set up a headset plus stereo speakers to work at the same time, so I can use a softphone for VOIP calls. I need the headset for phone conversations, and the speakers so I can hear an incoming call (when I am not at the computer). The sound is onboard the motherboard (ASUS P5S800 - VM ), and uses Realtek AC97 software. I seem to be able to set it for the headset OR the speakers, but not both at the same time. Can anyone tell me how I can get the headset and speakers working together, please?

Re: Hardware setup for VOIP softphone
First off, let me say that I've spent countless hours attempting to come up to speed on VOIP but as an end user I may be asking a dumb question.
My goal of late has been to get a softphone setup that functions with the quality of a voip solution with an ata.My bandwidth at home is 6 meg down/ 768 up comcast. I'm using a brand new dell laptop with 2 gigs of RAM, dual core, etc.. I went and bought a special headset. I use a Linksys WRT54GS v. 2 flashed with DD-WRT as my router. The first attempt was skype. So much hype about the call quality and I can only assume those folks never use skypein or skypeout. I never was able to get a call that was acceptable. My second attempt has been viatalk with X-lite. This has been going much better, but still isn't something to replace a hardware based solution. I get echos or the other end complaining they can't hear me very well. My ping time to the viatalk server averages 60ms.I know there are some really smart folks on this board and I've read tons of old posts, but I have not been able to find if my expectations of a voip softphone are out of line.I had vonage once, and the sound was never an issue. I want a softphone solution that provides the same experience. Is this possible? What else can I do to try and improve the experience. |

Re: Hardware setup for VOIP softphone
Will5343 your issue is most likely the sound cards chipset. Realtek is not a good chipset for recording or high quality sound output. Try to look into a dedicated card.
Devon Paulene you need to make a new thread with your issue. You may PM me with the location of the new thread if you want my assistance. jodievoip what is the intention of your post because I don't see any benefit of it. |
