No 5.1 sound

Hello, recently I installed a new mobo, but can't get soundcard to work properly. Mobo = gigabyte 7VT600-P-RZ; sound card = SB audigy platinum 1. The remote control centre is not being recognised/detected so I can't use optical out from front panel. So I use output from back and only 4 (plus sub) out of 5 speakers work. The power is being supplied to front panel becuase I can see the red light for the optical out shining. I've moved the soundcard to all PCI sots and still get problems. I can't find any I/O conflicts. So I'm stuck , please help .

Look in the system control panel and make sure you have all the drivers for your Creative card loaded. I personally find these cards a bit of a nightmare when it comes to loading, downloading (from creative) and udating. But they are the business. Anyway, if you have any of those red 'X's or yellow exclaimaition marks then you will need to load drivers for that device.

Ok, how about the onboard sound that comes with this MB? have you disabled it in the bios?

Hello, yes I disabled it in the bios and tested, then re-enabled in bios and tested then disabled in device mannager and tested. What's worse is that I managed to get the optical out going on a different PCI slot than where it is currently located but it cut out eg. played for 3 secs then nothing for 5 to 10 secs. So the front panel works - ie I haven't munted it. I've just run out of options. Nothing obvious i can figure out
