Realtek ALC850

Realtek ALC850

Isn't this just the worst sound chip going! And alll the main manufacturers are using it like it's the best thing since sliced bread. Jesus-H-Christ! The codecs are rubbish the SPDIF is up the creek and they don't even have drivers that support the card properly. Going to the realtek site and trying to find the information is a joke because the chip isn't even listed. Who are these Technological Misfits? How have they managed to falsely gain access into our midsts?

Sound off!

Actually the chip itself isn't bad. Agreed the drivers are crap and the site seems to interchange/confuse the chip type 'ALC850' with with the codecs 'AC97' randomly. This is weird seeing as they are the manufacturer and should know what they are talking about, but as this site is in Taiwan, I think it may be a 'Lost in Translation' issue rather than deliberate incompetence. #

The drivers are there but you are better off doing a search for ALC850 than trying to navigate (yes the site is hopeless, my gran could do a better job) though as far as i can again tell the product info link leads to the codecs, and drivers, and the codec links leads to the product info.

Interestingly I managed to find a site which has new codecs than Realtek.... Go figure!
