Is your screenshot from before or after you installed the drivers? If the Device Status looks ok it could just be that the volume control is muted, but I'm sure you've checked that already

OK, looks like it's still having trouble with the driver. What version number is it?
The most appropriate one I can find for you is C-Media CMI8738/C3DX Audio Driver V2.88B for Windows XP Audio Driver V5.12.01.0638. http://www.asus.com.tw/support/downl...533-E&Type=All (scroll down to the 5th one) Also, is the audio device sharing an IRQ with anything else, like the Unimodem? EDIT: Remember to uninstall the old driver before installing the new one.

try installing from safe mode and make sure a/virus is disabled while installing as it is known to corrupt sound and video driver installation
this is for cd rom but it has something on error 39 http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;314060

This tells you what to do with code 39.
Dunno if it applies to you but it's worth a look. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d...asp?frame=true Scroll down to number 39. |

What I see from the above post is your network card is on the same irq. I've seen conflicts between nics and sound cards before. Try disabling or removing your network card to see if the sound starts working. If it does we need to get on of them on another irq.

Running out of ideas, but i'm sure it's something simple we've overlooked.
If i'm following this properly, you've installed a new pci card, uninstalled the old audio drivers, installed ones for your new card and it's still showing up as 'missing drivers'. Can you post another screenshot? I see you've got legacy audio drivers installed, try disabling them. What happens when you try and play an audio file, any error messages?

found this
Why can't I get sound from the program? Windows OS (except 2000) - Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Sounds and Multimedia or Sounds and Audio Devices. Click on the Audio tab. Select "Use only default devices" or "Use only preferred devices" at the bottom of the window and click OK. - If this does not enable sound and you have Windows 98, do the following: - Open the Sounds and Multimedia control panel and click on the Audio tab. - Look in the "Playback device" drop-down list for "Game compatible device." Choose this option and click OK. Windows 2000 - Click on Start, Settings, Control Panel, Sounds and Multimedia. The Sounds and Multimedia Properties window opens. - Click on the Hardware tab, highlight the Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device, and click Properties. The Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device Properties window opens. - Click on the General tab, set Device Usage to "Do not use this device" and click OK. - Follow the second step above (Windows 2000) to reopen the Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device Properties window and click the Properties tab. Open Audio Devices, highlight "Modem Wave Driver," click the Properties button and select "Do Not Map Through This Device." - Click OK.
