Hissing and humming woes
Hello
I'm quite new to the world of PC audio recording. I found this forum in a related thread about noise issues in audio recording. Please help me understand the issue I have. I bought an Edirol UA-25 USB audio Capture soundcard on the advice of a music store 'techie'. I got home and hooked it up to my PC (Win98 SE) which has a NForce2 motherboard; Athlon CPU 2500; 120GB hard drive; and 512MB Ram. The Computer store where I bought the PC disabled onboard sound and LAN for me (since I'd no use for either). The UA-25 sounds wonderful when playing mp3's or CD's, but when I try to put down some voice or guitar, a massive hum and hiss surrounds the room. I've only got the PC unit, Monitor and Speakers connected to a single circuit board (UPS actually). I disconnected the speakers, but the noise is still coming through the soundcard. I've even tried the lowest input level (with or without phantom power). Could it be a 'Ground' problem? If so, I'm not savvy about correcting such problems. Is it a compatibility issue betwwen the souncard and Windows USB drivers? I'd appreciate any advice from other users here. Thx
