Sound card plays audio but not system sounds
I have an ASUS A7V600-X REV 1.xx motherboard with onboard sound on a 2GH Athlon with WinXP SP2. I've also had SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio installed on the machine.
I can play CD/DVD media and wav & mp3 files off the internet just fine but I can't get system sounds to work and has never worked since I bought the machine. I've got the system sounds activated for errors and mail notification and the like but it only plays a DOS-like beep whenever those sounds are supposed to play. I really miss Austin Powers telling me I have mail. :} Also, I used to use the All Sound Recorder program on a former computer to convert anything going through my sound card into mp3 files. I could hook up a tape cassette player into my sound card, start up the ASR program and then press "play" and end up with an mp3 file. The setup still works on the former computer. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked on the new computer. I've tried taking it back but they couldn't fix the problem and basically told me I have to live with it. I have a feeling that it's simply a matter of either ticking or unticking something, but I've searched high and low and couldn't find anything. Thanks for any help! |
