ticking noise , slight echo with dvds and cds when played

My Toshiba laptop m105-s3041 has deveoped an annoying sound lately. The sound is not scratchy or distorted. The sound has some ticking noise , sounding similar to a vinyl rcord with clicks and pops ,along with a short duration echo. This only happens when playing using the cd-rom drive. Music on my harddrive plays just fine...It does not matter how loud I turn up the volume ,any help to rectify this will be greatly appreciated. BTW I ripped a track from a cd lately and the strangest thing happened. Once ripping started for a few seconds the cd would "play" It sounded at a very slow speed and once ripping was complete the cd ejected as I expected...but the slow sounding music during ripping was unexpected

Which media player are you using? Have you tried a different media player?

Re: ticking noise , slight echo with dvds and cds when played

Hey Dogg...sorry for the late response...it doesnt seem to matter which program I am using WM or Nero win dvd etc...it has a gargling sound to the words when playing movies ( speech ) and a slight echo with music. And like I mention before..music from the harddrive plays fine. WOW SRS is turned off..A toshiba feature...could it be the player itself?
