No sound on Asus A8S-X Mobo

Hi!

I have a custom built computer, my motherboard is an Asus A8S-X. The sound driver that came with this motherboard (on a CD) decided that it doesn't want to work anymore.

I tried remedying (sp?) this about a week ago by trying to download sound drivers, and I think I may have downloaded the wrong one and my computer is stuck on trying to get that one to work, rather than the one it actually needs.

I still have the original CD for my motherboard (its in my CD drive right now). I have tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling, but that still isn't getting it to work.

Is there any way I can get my computer to recognize the correct sound drivers and get my sound working again?

Thanks! Kevin.

Re: No sound on Asus A8S-X Mobo

Are you getting an error or some sort? How do you know it's the driver that isn't working and simply not a hardware issue?

You can get the drivers from ASUS here: http://support.asus.com/download/dow...=1&model=A8S-X

But for testing purposes, the older version on the CD are almost always a safe bet.

I don't know if its hardware. I had a sound card in that computer, and I tried taking it out, and the sound still doesn't work. Which leads me to think that probably there is something goofed up with the computer in that it's trying to use the wrong driver or something... Either way, I think at this rate I'm just going to get a new mobo for my computer because I've been having several other issues with my computer as well (random restarts, freezing on boot, extremely slow when the computer starts, etc)

Re: No sound on Asus A8S-X Mobo

A fresh install of the OS will resolve any driver of config issues...and possibly your other issues as well.
