Microphone input mimicking "What U hear"

I have an X-Fi which has worked perfectly, but just recently this week my mic failed on me. With the mic connected and also unplugged/muted, all it feeds through ventrilo or teamspeak is my sound output. Both "Microphone" and "What U Hear" are the same function.

I've tried reseating, disconnecting jacks, uninstalling/reinstalling drivers and also the whole sound card.

Not sure what to do now.. I'm thinking maybe a possible virus? Appreciate any help. Thanks.

Was there anything in particular you did before this issue started happening?

The only thing I can remember was watching LiveStreams from xfire.com

If you are saying that the same sound the card outputs to the speakers is also being fed into the mic input, then that sounds like a hardware problem. Something on the card has failed.

Could I have caused that by shutting down incorrectly while playing music?
