Distorted sound - Soundblaster/WinFast/IDT?
Hey all. Thanks for your time if you can be bothered reading this.
After a new installation of Windows XP on my computer, I installed all the necessary sound/audio drivers. I know this because I can hear sound... EXCEPT, it is slightly distorted than how it was. When listening to songs, the bass is not present, but other low frequency sounds (such as electric guitars) either echo or become fuzzy. The sound driver I had been using before I wiped my computer was Sound blaster 5.1 (the same as now). No problems at all then. I have been using the same headphones for over a year. I know it is not the headphones which are causing the problem, as I have tried another perfectly working set but still get the fuzzy sounds. Before wiping my computer and installing XP, the sound was the best quality I had ever heard. Here is the picture of my Sound, video and game controllers in device manager (along with other devices missing drivers): ![]() Here is my System Information (Sound Device): ![]() Computer Specifications: OS: Microsoft Windows XP Professional System Manufacturer: Intel System Model: D945GTP BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: Genuine Intel(R) CPU 3.40GHz (2 CPUs) Memory: 1022MB RAM Would I have to uninstall and then install my drivers again? Do I have to get a new sound card? New sound drivers? Thanks so much for any replies! |

Re: Distorted sound - Soundblaster/WinFast/IDT?
Goto Control Panel / Sounds and Audio Devices / Volume tab / Advanced button and ensure you have the correct speaker setup.
Also, most audio chips install their own software/management utility. Ensure everything is also properly configured there.

Problem solved!
I ended up uninstalling all 3 drivers through device manager. I then restarted my computer. After this, it had the pop-up finding "New Hardware" and Windows installed the necessary drivers itself! Now the sound is as clear as can be! |
