Weird Feedback Problem
After wiping and reformatting my computer once I had no sound and no idea what my sound card drivers were, I ended up downloading Realtek audio drivers and my sound worked fine. There was one problem though, whenever I were to talk on Ventrilo or any other speech program with my friends they would get extreme feedback when I talked (they cannot talk at all really when I talk without hearing themselves twice as loud back at them hah) and could hear any sounds such as music if I were playing it on my computer pretty loudly and clearly, even though I use a headset. This was never a problem before the reformatting. To this day this problem still exists, and for the most part we just deal with it. For a long time just I assumed that it was a problem with my soundcard. Although just recently after looking I'm pretty sure I have integrated sound on my motherboard I'm guessing? I'm not really sure how that works. I've recently only recently really looked and can't see one.
Now my friend has the exact same computer as me (we bought the same one online) except a graphics card difference, I recently replaced my Geforce 8400 GS with a Geforce 9600 GSO and my 300 watt power supply with a 500 watt power supply. Now, just yesterday (more like 6 or 7 hours ago), I helped him reformat his computer, and when it came to install sound drivers I helped him to install Realtek audio drivers, he had sound and we got everything else running just fine as well. Okay here's the weird part, later when we went to talk on Xfire chat with me, guess what!? He now has the exact same feedback problems as me. So now I'm thinking that I perhaps downloaded the incorrect sound drivers, although it's strange we are getting sound just fine, but it's really a huge pain to use any voice chat programs without this very annoying feedback problem (Skype isn't even an option really hah, even with a push to talk addon). Another thing that sucks is neither of us can remember if whether or not we had been using Realtek audio before reformatting. So I'm just hoping someone may be able to help me! Here is my info. Re: Weird Feedback Problem
Looks like you both have HP computers? I assume you downloaded the Realtek drivers from an outside source (ie: not HP)?
Try getting all of the drivers directly from HP: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport...=us&taskId=135 You can look up your PC by model number.

Re: Weird Feedback Problem
Hey
Did you find a fix to the problem ? My friend and me have got exactly the same problem in his computer. He has a Asus P5QLE motherboard. He had no problem before, it came up "suddenly". We tried on ventrilo and other voice chat systems, it's all the same. Everytime I talk to him, I get my voice back if he has his mic open, even though he is using headphones, so his mic should not get my voice from the air waves. The only way for me not to hear my voice back is when he decreases his "Wave" playback sliderbar to zero.Unfortunately, although I hear him fine, he cannot hear me anymore. So... what to do ? There seems to be a mixup with this crappy audio systems. |

Re: Weird Feedback Problem
Uninstall all drivers and software listed in Add and Remove Programs, then reboot, and install the correct drivers.

Re: Weird Feedback Problem
I can tell my friend's problem is not related to HP. His computer is hand-made.
The driver's version have been updated to the latest 2009 drivers, Realtek Version 5.10.0.5859/6.0.1.58. The problem remains. Further information: 1 - We have been able to decrease the magnitude of the problem by enabling his microphone boost in the Advanced Volume Options, as, with the higher volume from his voice, I can decrease my own volume and therefore my feedback voice is weaker. 2- We found out the same problem on another thread of this forum: Getting alot of Feedback through my Headset. The problems is defined as " input-ouput crosstalk " and several solutions are presented, like muting all other channels, using front/end mic plug, etc. |

"Yeah i fixed it, I just went through everything individually and muted 1 thing at a time and unmuting if it didnt work. What i had to do was Mute my "Stereo Mix" In the Recording part of my Volume Control." More specifically: go to Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices - click the Voice tab - click on Volume under Line in/Mic out. You're in the Recording Control now: Options - Properties, check Stereo Mix, hit okay. Now Stereo Mix is shown in the Recording Control, mute it Last edited by Knyghtmayre; 11-01-2009 at 06:52 AM. |

Re: Weird Feedback Problem
Hmm, but in the Recording Control, the check-box that appears below the Stereo Mix slider bar is named "Select", not "Mute", am I right ?
And it is mutually-exclusive check-box, so, if you select it, it automatically unselects any other check that existed. So you're saying that you selected (not muted) the stereo-mix instead of selecting microphone, and it just worked ? How are the slider bar values of the Stereo Mix and Microphone, then ? Pretty weird, but great that you fixed it. |

Re: Weird Feedback Problem
Well for me in Recording Control, Stereo Mix was not there until I went into properties and selected Stereo Mix to be shown. After that I could see it and I did not adjust it's slider controls at all and just selected the mute check box right underneath.
