No Sound XP Sp2 Fresh Install
Ok...A little history, first this is a home-made computer, second it's not mine, it belongs to a deployed soldier, third it had xp on it before and everything worked fine. I reinstalled xp after a virus corrupted the system, then reinstalled all the drivers he had previously saved on the computer from a separate partition. All went well until the sound driver. It gives me the bsod. Doesn't even finish installing. I'm not an expert but just tell me what kind of info you need and i can get it. To get you started I believe the problem is in a UAA driver. I never installed one because he didn't have it saved. I am not sure it if that is a must for sound or not. But how do i find out or even which one to use?

Re: No Sound XP Sp2 Fresh Install
I would ignore (for now anyway) all of the drivers that were saved on the HDD (especially if the PC was infected by a virus). And a new install is the perfect time to install any updated drivers that are available.
If it has onboard sound, you will need to know the motherboard brand/model. If it is an addon sound card, you will need to know th brand/model. If you don't know or can't find/see the labels on the hardware, you can use software such as Everest or SIW. There is a sticky for finding drivers: How to find drivers I would look for new drivers for the motherboard (which should include the NIC, USB, and audio for onboard sound chips).
