No sound on tecra A9, desperate

I reinstalled windows XP SP3 on a Toshiba Tecra A9. This is the same OS it was running before. However after install, even though the sound drivers are installed, there is no sound. The computer says that its functioning properly, and I can adjust the volume, but there is no sound through speakers or headphone port. I've installed several different drivers (Its Intel HD Audio, so realtek) and used several different versions of XP with no luck, which is weird because there was never a problem with the audio before. Would be incredibly grateful is someone could help me out here.
