Realtek High Definition Audio
Newbie question folks.
My new computer came with Realtek High Definition Audio installed. I'm interested in using Cakewalk Sonar 8 to do some recording using both instruments and midi controllers. Before I dive into it, is this sound card any good (or even just good enough) or do I need to install something a whole lot better. I'm watching a tutorial and it's making a big deal out of the sound card stuff? Do I connect midi controllers to the USB port and are the USB ports on it USB1 or USB2. Thank you very much for your patience, your help and the sharing of your expertise. |

Re: Realtek High Definition Audio
My computer has RealTek HD audio and it sounds fine to my discerning ears.
If you want to do professional audio work a dedicated card is best.

Re: Realtek High Definition Audio
May I ask a futher question on this? I'm suing XP Pro, and when I open the recording control to set the various volumes for CD, mic, Line, etc., the volume slider for each of these is greyed out so they can't be adjusted. The only slide button that can be adjusted is the Recording slider, which I have to keep just above zero or it does some serious clipping.
Also, when I mute the mic volume, or any one for that reason, it doesn't actually mute it. I would also like to have Windows Media Player playing prerecorded background music while I sing the vocals through the line in, but have only the vocals recorded. Is this possible with the Realtek audio that came with the motherboard, or do I need a different sound device? If I need another one, what do you recommend? My old computer had a soundblaster card with front panel which did all of the above nicely, but made static noise every time I moved the mouse. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |
