Motherboard: nVidia XFX 750a
O/S: Vista Ultimate 64 Sound Hardware: Integrated Realtek HD Audio Recording Software: Audacity Connections: 1. Sony MDS-JB920 MiniDisc <optical> Motherboard SPDIF Input 2. Motherboard SPDIF Output <optical> Pioneer VSX-D810S Receiver I'm attempting to record from my MiniDisc deck to my computer using the optical SPDIF input. However, I'm having trouble with static. First, I was using the default microsoft drivers that Vista automatically installed. I could hear the music in the recording but there was lots of static. Then I installed the drivers from the Realtek website. But all I get now is nothing but static. The Realtek audio manager software shows that the SPDIF input is sync'd at 44.1K PCM. When I tell it to operate in passthru mode (SPDIF in looped to SPDIF out), I get perfect sound out my receiver but still record nothing but static. I've tried setting both the MiniDisc Deck and the computer to 16-Bit and 24-bit. I've tried both 44.1K and 48K. I make sure that the computer config matches the MiniDisc setup but still, record nothing but static. I've also tried setting the Capture device in Audacity to both "Realtek HD Digital Input" and "Windows Primary Sound Mapper". Doesn't affect anything. I'm looking for advice. Anyone have any insight into this problem? I've been fighting it for days. It would be a shame to revert back to analog recording from a digital source. |

I figure it must be something amiss with the integrated audio device. I plugged in a small device I bought off ebay.
This works perfectly. Don't know why I can't get the SPDIF input on the motherboard working, but this little cheap chinese-made device works perfect.
