Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi (integrated), no recording options.

Some important specs first:

Mobo - MSI P6N Diamond (here, view of back ports)

Sound Card - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio (integrated, latest driver updates)

OS - Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (I haven't updated in in awhile and don't plan to because it breaks some of my programs when I do)

Headset - Plantronics Gamecom 1 (here)

~~

I've had this problem ever since I got this mobo and even after having it replaced (same mobo); there is no sign of any recording options or configurations of available recording devices. The audio output jack (green) for the headset works fine, but the (pink) audio input has never worked. I've tried plugging the microphone jack into every other jack and no device is ever detected.
There's also never been any kind of software that internally records what is produced from the speakers (i.e, Creative's 'What U Hear').
I've noticed that the mobo's version of this sound card differs in layout from the non-integrated version of the sound card and wondered whether that contributes to the problem or not..

I feel like I've tried everything short of buying a new sound card (which I'm avoiding doing).. Please help!

~~

Edit: This card doesn't even recognize my headphones as headphones, but speakers...

If the pink does not work then blue should work since it is Line-In. You should use a program like sound recorder to test out the micro phone since it could be connected but the system can't uniquely identify it. Computers also can't distinguish between speakers and headphones since both do the same thing, output sound.

Re: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi (integrated), no recording options.

Thanks for the reply.

There actually is no blue input.. there's pink, green, and white on the top and then yellow and black on the bottom.

I did try to record sound using each of the ports, like you said. Pink simply stated that "no recording device was found" and redirected me to the sound device manager. All of the other jacks "recorded" but the sound files that they produced were just blank sounds rather than the random vocal noises I made into the mic.

I'd appreciate your continued help if you think you can assist me. :)

Edit: Also, thanks for the tip on the audio output devices.

Sorry, the manual I am referencing was badly written. There is about 20 pages between the diagram and explanation. After closer examination the Line-In blue and Microphone pink are the same plug in the back.

Do you have the standard programs to control the sound card installed? There is a pack of them that you might have missed because you can't use the auto update feature of the creative website.

Re: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi (integrated), no recording options.

I'm not sure. I installed all the drivers and updating software that came with my mobo when I first built my desktop. My mobo hasn't successfully updated in awhile, but where could I get these missed packs that you're talking about if I can't get them from the maker's website? I'm really not sure what you're referring to but it's worth a try.

There is more to Creative Lab cards than just the driver. A driver will make the card play sound but will not give you much control. Creative's site has the software to get control but because you have Vista you need to manually get them.

Re: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi (integrated), no recording options.

Really sorry to bump this but I'm still having the same problem.

Things that haven't changed:
-Audio output is still good and working
-Still can't get recording devices to work
-When the microphone is plugged in to the correct jack, the Windows sound device panel states that the microphone isn't plugged in, and when it isn't actually plugged in, the sound device panel states that it is plugged in
-In every other jack, the microphone "is" plugged in but doesn't actually work

Things that have changed:
-Upgraded to W7 Home from Vista Home
-I have the latest drivers and managed to install the Creative Audio Control Panel
-In the control panel I've tried both the line-in and microphone options for the FlexiJack settings
