Distorted sound

I recently re-installed XP on my toshiba satellite laptop. I installed available sound drivers on toshiba site. Also installed Microsoft UAA Bus Driver and then installed Realtek driver. Was able to get sound but getting a distortion. Seems to happen when multiple applications are running and or current application is loading. Any input would be grately appreciated.

Did you install chipset drivers? Updated ones?
