Missing Sound
hello, read a few posts in this catagory. Some seemed to have similar problems as me, but i thought u would make a post so that i could illustrate exactly what is going on.
I recently had a problem with my computer, took it to Best Buy's Geek Squad to get it repaired. 2 days passed and i took it home, when i set everything up everything was fine until i plugged in my headset only to realize i have no sound! The headset IS plugged in correctly and my sound was working perfectly before i took the computer in to have it fixed. The problem was not with the sound at all so im thinking geek squad may have done something? They say they never messed with the sound settings. Maybe they reset something which reset the sound? idk. What they say they did: -Removed over 300 infections -Repaired OS Damage -Repaired Errors on HD -Removed Bad Video Card and installed new ATI 4550 with latest drivers: TS My computer will not recognize ANY sound device that is plugged into it, whether it is speakers or headsets or just regular headphones. There are no errors in the device manager. Also....I did switch from an NVidia to a ATI...dunno if that may have made a difference, dont think so since that was just graphics. I run Windows XP by the way. Thanks in advance to anyone that tries to help with my problem. |

Re: Missing Sound
First, go to Bios and check to see if the onboard audio is enabled.
Second, go to Control Panel > Admin Tools > Services > make sure Windows Audio is Started and on Automatic.

Re: Missing Sound
ya it is on automatic.
Device Manager shows no flags....dunno what the name of my sound card is. Under Sound, Video, and game Controllers in the device manger it show: Audio Codecs Legacy Audio Drivers Legacy Video Capture Devices Media Control Devices Video Codecs maybe one of those is the sound card? doesnt look like it though |

Re: Missing Sound
What are the specs of your system, hardware that is. Is the pc
a custom built or box store? If box store give name and model number, if custom give mobo make and model, if sound card what make and model.... Do you have the mobo install cd that came with the system.

Re: Missing Sound
I got this from another forum, might work..
Go to Device Manager/Device Drivers Under System Devices find Microsoft UAA HD bus driver Now, first disable it and then uninstall it. Close the Device Manager and run the Realtek setup Cant hurt,,, I take that back, do at your own risk. But I would try it myself..
