Hello, Ive been having this problem for weeks and have yet to find an answer, so I figured id try this place out.
I recently bought a sound card, installed it and its drivers and it worked fine for a few days, then, we had an electrical storm and my computer shut down randomly, several times(even while hooked up to a battery packed surge protector!?). After that, my sound card stopped working. I wasnt sure if it was fried so I tried it on another computer and found that it was. So, I went back to my on-board audio but I couldnt get it to work. I attempted to install the " Asus M4A79 Deluxe Realtek ALC1200 Audio Driver 5.10.0.5657/6.0.1.56" and restarted my comp(with OB sound enabled in the bios) but still nothing. I dont even see any sound devices in my Device Manager. Somebody told me I could try re-installing vista, so I did that but nothing has changed. :/ Also, someone was telling me that I needed an HD audio driver too, but I dont know where to find that. Would it be possible that my on-board audio got fried in the storm? Im using an ASUS M4A79 Deluxe with windows vista ultimate x64 build 6000 Hope I supplied enough info. Thanks! |

Re: No on-board audio [moved from Vista]
Do you have an entry under Device Manager >> Sound, video and game controllers? Any '?' marks?
2 things that I would try if nothing unusual in Device Manager. 1. Disable, then re-enable onboard audio to see if you can't kick it into gear. 2. Try drivers from Realteks website: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/ You might also want to try using a LiveCD of Linux to rule out OS/hardware problems. If you are not familiar with it, basically you burn an image to a CD and boot to it and you will have a working copy of Linux up and running without messing with your original Windows install. When you are done testing for sound you just remove the CD and you are back to Vista. My favorite flavor of Linux right now is Ubuntu. Here is their download page with instructions on how to do it. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD Pauldo |

Re: No on-board audio [moved from Vista]
Well, like I said, no sound devices show up in the device manager. I tried disabling on-board audio, starting, restarting and enabling on-board again but still, nothing :( and "Asus M4A79 Deluxe Realtek ALC1200 Audio Driver 5.10.0.5657/6.0.1.56" was the driver I came across but it did not change a thing. Ill give that Ubuntu a shot after work if I can find a cd. :) I read about Drive Sweeper, could that possibly help at all?

Re: No on-board audio [moved from Vista]
yes download drivesweeper here:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/de...leaner_pro.cfm Go here for realtek driver: http://www.realtek.com/downloads/dow...&GetDown=false 1. remove all sound drivers for both the onboard and the sound card previously installed. 2. reboot pc 3. install high definition driver 4. reboot pc, before making any adjustments to it.
