SoundBlaster X-fi help please

Hi I've been using the Sound Blaster X-Fi for a while now, mainly for recording purposes. I have noticed as I record I hear a very noticeable hissing/background noise and at first I thought it was the microphones issue. I unplugged the microphone yet still hear the unwanted background noise. I would really appreciate it if I could recieve some suggestions on fixing this problem.

Thanks!

Are you up to date on your drivers? You didn't mention which X-fi you have but you can go here and download the latest from Creative.

Where is your soundcard physically located on your pc? Sometimes it helps to move the card to the last slot on the mobo (farthest from the cpu or graphics card).

Re: SoundBlaster X-fi help please

A suggestion here,

Under microphone effect tab "suppress noise" put a check in the box
should be located in your sound configuration, see if this helps.

In the taskbar, click on your sound icon and go to configuration.
