EEK! "No audio output device installed" please help x

Hiya, so my problem is that i have no sound, haven't had for a while now.
When i hover over the speaker icon it says "no audio output device installed".
I've tried going to device manager and beside where it says "Realtek AC'97 Audio" is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark inside. I have tried clicking update driver software and scan for hardware changes.
I have been googling this problem for ages to try and find a solution but anything i can find doesn't work. If anybody could give me any suggestions on what might be wrong and how to fix it i'd really appreciate it.

I don't know much about the computer, it was given to me and i'm not much of a computer wiz. But if you need to know anything i will try to answer.

Thanks.

Hi bill,
I'm not entirely sure. The computer was given to me when my grandma got a new one, is there any easy way to tell what make and model the computer is? Sorry i'm not very good with computers.

Thanks for replying.

Hi Jodie820,

Do you see a Service Tag on the side or back of the computer?
This will have a model number on it.

What is the code you have with the error in the Device Manager (Realtek AC'97 Audio)?
To find the code:
Right click on the error>Properties.
A Window will open
Under the General tab it should state the error or code.

Then try this:
Go to the Device Manager
Right click on the Realtek AC'97 Audio>Properties>Details Tab
Scroll to Hardware ID if you are using Vista
Device Instance ID if you are using XP
Post the info you find.

This will help me identify your driver.

You could try this link http://www.realtek.com.tw/
Click on the top link under quick links and download
'Auto installation program (support Vista 64 and Vista) (Submission ID: 1310628)
6'
from the list of drivers- you may need to uninstall the realtek driver before running this.

Hey again.
Erm i'm not sure about the tag on the back of the computer but there is a code written, AC 230V, not sure if that means anything to you?

The error code in device manager is code 10.
And the info under the details tab is:
PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_7012&SUBSYS_18081019&REV_A0
PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_7012&SUBSYS_18081019
PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_7012&CC_040100
PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_7012&CC_0401

Hi,
Remove any Realtek driver you may have installed.

This is an SIS 7012 Audio Driver.
See if this driver will install:
http://www.sis.com/download/
Accept the agreement
Select your OS
Select Audio
Select SIS7012

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi thanks very much for the advice but i have 2 questions which probably seem really dumb sorry,
How do i remove the realtek drivers? or do you mean uninstall realtek all together?

Also does it matter that the SIS7012 download doesnt say it works with windows vista?

Remove the realtek driver and software from add/remove in control panel
also in program files you will find a folder in there to delete after removing
it from add/remove, reboot pc after finished removing driver. Upon bootup,
if a new found hardware box comes up, cancel it out.

This is an SIS 7012 Audio Driver.
See if this driver will install:
http://www.sis.com/download/

Accept the agreement
Select your OS - SELECT vista and yes it will work with vista windows
Select Audio
Select SIS7012

Note: I have found SiS is not very good with audio drivers so I go to Realtek
for mine. If you would like to you have a choice here:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false
Choose the first one to download.

After installing the audio driver, reboot pc before making any adjustments.
