[SOLVED] Sound Blaster live CT4830 question

I got my hands on a Sound Blaster live CT4830 card. My question is: is this card better than my integrated motherboard sound? My motherboard is an intel D1450 board.

I'm having trouble finding your mobo online. I didn't see it on Intel's site and the only references that I saw were for fujitsu siemens pc's. Is there a make and model # for the pc?

Can you find out what codec you are using? That's really what we need, although I am going to assume that your board is a few years old (judging from the comments online) and in that case you might be better off with the Live card.

My bad should have given you more specs. It a fujitsu siemens scaleo 400. It was bought in the beginning of the year of 2002. It is really old. But so far it's meeting my needs. Not sure about what you mean by sound codec. I got sigmatel. I searched for sound codecs on my system but it's a bunch of them I guess, for example imaadp32.acm.
Nevertheless I have read that this sound card has gotten some bad reviews at least on the recording sound part. But still, maybe it's better on my system anyway?

Onboard audio was never meant to be a good solution for recording and until a few years ago it was never meant to provide good audio quality. It was only meant to provide basic audio both input and output.

I would definitely put in the Live! card. Even though it is probably older than your onboard audio it should sound better since those early integrated audio solutions were made with very cheap parts and often suffered from interference from internal components of the mobo.

Hey!

So I installed the sound card. But there are a couple of things I don't get.
There is an digital output. What kind of stuff do you connect to the computer when you use digital out. The other thing is that. There is a black marked output. I googled it and I just get back that is a rear output. Would like to know what this is more precisly. Because I don't get any sound out of that output. The green marked output works fine. The problem now that I got from installing the soundcard is that. Before I had two green outputs. Now If the green marked output is the only working output then I only have one. Should the black be working or do you need to configure it somehow?
The sound card got Internal Connectors: CD In, AUX In, TAD. Should I connect some of these to the board.

Would really appreciate comment on my previous post.

I get a lot more attention on my other threads. Why don't I get any responce? I would really get to the bottom with this card.

My apologies. I thought I had responded (I know I had atleast typed out a response, maybe I didn't hit the Submit button) and I wasn't able to get online yesterday.

Digital out is for things like hooking up to a stereo receiver.

You are right on the 'black output'. It is for the rear speakers. Check your speaker configuration to see if you have Quadrophonic enabled. This card only has 4 channel output so you won't be able to get 5.1, if that is what you had. If you can't find the setting in Creative's control panel than you can find it under Start >> Control Panel >> Sounds and Audio devices >> Volume tab >> Speaker settings >> Advanced.

Typically you would hook up your CDRom to the CD In header. AUX In is just that. It has a left and right input. TAD is for hooking up to a modem (it is an old card

).

I would be interested to know what your experience is with this card. Does it sound better than your onboard?

I see thanks anyway. I figured it's an old card. But normaly the computer is plugged to a stereo (old sony stereo) via 3.5mm sound cable. I tried different settings and changing the output with the cable. I don't get additional sound. It's only the green output that gives sound. Is the soundcard damaged or I just have the wrong cables?

It's quite possible that the rear output is damaged.

Why do you need a second 'green output'?

If you have checked the settings in both Creative Console and in Windows and they are set to Quadrophonic than you should be getting sound out of the black jack.

Have you tried with a pair of headphones? Have you tried testing the speakers in Creative Console?

Thanks for your troubleshooting help Pauldo. I did set it to quadrophonic. I just now tried headphones. Zero sound. I want two "green" outputs because
that is what I hade originaly. Don't want to move down. What I see with creative console is that it only takes X-Fi and I got the old live card. What do you think? Do you think it's damaged? Is there another creative console for my version?

Think I need to update the status. The second channel (black) does work. But it's a little truth with modification. When I posted earlier I tested the sound with youtube. When I played my Windows media player. The channel worked but not with youtube. Don't know why the card doesn't understand websound. But to be honest I think the sound is a little bit worse than the onboard. I also tried to configure the settings in my amplitube utility to play my guitarr but that would just not make it. Think I'm going to get rid of the card. Thanks for your effort Pauldo.
