Hiya.
I have an Avdent 5511 laptop, somehow my little girl has removed the sound icon at the bottom and now i cant get it back. Iv tried using the F5 and F6 function buttons but theses dont work either. On the sound card control panel under the Task Bar and Starts Menu, under the Ntification Tab, It say System Icons, but the Volume icon is Greyed out and cannot be selected, the other icons that are prsent are ticked or available to click (clock, power, network). Any ideas please ? |

Re: Sound icon gone and cant get back !! Please help
I'm not totally sure what all you have tried, but this might be a possibility:
http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/laptop/5511.htm Located there are function keys, did you try the mute and unmute button (Fn+F3)? Also, if you go to control panel->sound and audio devices->audio is the volume button grayed out under sound playback default device? Is your audio card showing up too? There is another way to add the volume control to your task bar within this same sound and audio devices panel, just go to the volume tab. I guess that would probably be grayed out too, but sometime there is a logo of what sound card is controlling the sound. In this case, Realtek might have a separate program in charge of sound and it may have muted the sound or have affected the volume control. Another possible solution might be to go ahead and reinstall the drivers or update them. A link to your specific card and drivers is on that same website link I posted earlier and leads to this page with drivers. From here you will want to download the Hardware: Realtek High Definition Audio (7.1) Realtek HD Audio driver for Windows Vista (32 & 64 bit). Possibly, after reinstallation/update, it may revert everything back to normal. Last edited by dduckett; 06-06-2009 at 09:16 AM. |

Re: Sound icon gone and cant get back !! Please help
If you go to start->run and type in msconfig.exe and go to the services tab, is Windows Audio enabled (checked)?

Re: Sound icon gone and cant get back !! Please help
Hello and Welcome to TSF,
Go into device manager start run type devmgmt.msc (press ok) under sound, video and game controllers (is there any marks)? right click on the audio device and select update driver, no to connect online, select automatically, reboot pc after it finishes.

Re: Sound icon gone and cant get back !! Please help
have you just tried rebooting pc?
Go here and run SCF first before attempting a restore: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212
