Hello,
I am new to Tech Support and wish happy easter to everyone. I was listening some music, and decided to unplug my speakers to plug some other speakers, but when I plugged in the new speakers, the sound suddenly became just noise. Now whatever I do, I just hear some noise. The noise vary with mouse clicks and hard drives activity, but no music can be heard at all. Changing the volume (by software of by the integrated potentiometer) have no effect at all, the noise is constant. I tried to reinstall the last Realtek HD Audio Codec driver (WDM_R221) and not surprisingly nothing changed. I took care about uninstalling the old drivers before. I also tried to boot on another Windows installation (worked well before), but same thing, only noise, so that's not because of the drivers. I loaded the bios defaults but same noise. It's quite surprising to see that the Realtek control panel still detect when I plug and unplug the speakers, that part is not broken. The only way to make this noise stop is to disable the "Microsoft UUA High Definition Audio bus driver", but still I hear some tiny ultrasound from the internal speakers caused by hard drive activity. If someone already had this problem and knows the solution (if there's one), please tell me, I can't live without music ! Do you think the sound card could be damaged just by plugging new speakers ? Also if there's no other choice I will consider buying a USB soundcard. If someone could give me an advice about which usb soundcard is good and inexpensive, it would be nice also. My computer is a laptop Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Xi 1554, it has a Realtek HD Audio chipset (ALC885). Thank you for any answer... |

Re: Realtek HDAudio (ALC885) suddenly stopped working and produces noise
i'm having the exact same problem here, so i would also very much like to hear if there is any way to solve this.
i did the exact same thing, i was listening to music through my headset, but wanted to change to my speakers, so i turned off my amplifier plugged in the cable and turned it back on, but no sound, just this annoying noise effect. Is there someone out there who have some info how to fix this? thanks in advance. |

Re: Realtek HDAudio (ALC885) suddenly stopped working and produces noise
Hello, I wasn't able to solve the problem by a software way.
I had to open the laptop and disconnect the speakers from the soundcard (there is two speakers on the laptop) because I couldn't live with this noise in my ears. It's not very difficult to do, but you must be very careful to not break anything. Of course if you still have warranty (mine expired last year) you must ask for a replacement of the motherboard. I also bought a good USB soundcard and uninstalled/disabled the HD Audio in the device manager. I recommend to buy the Cakewalk UA-1G, it's cheap but very powerful. I don't miss the HD Audio, this card is just better everywhere. Good luck. |

Re: Realtek HDAudio (ALC885) suddenly stopped working and produces noise
My PC is a stationary, and i've build it myself, what i did was to turn of the computer for 12 hours and when i turned it on, everything worked fine, but i only get sound if i plug in my minijack half way in, if i put it all the way in the volume turns very low and i only got sound in my left speaker. It works, but i'm not very happy about the solution to be honest, so if there is somebody out there who knows how to fix this, please tell :)

Re: Realtek HDAudio (ALC885) suddenly stopped working and produces noise
GabrielH and net-freak your sound cards are producing noise due to the fun effect of the reliability of Realtek's equipment. The reliability is so low that all Realtek models have a high tendency to make excess noise when they are malfunctioning. Both of you should consider buying new sound cards. I recommend a Creative Labs Sound Blaster card due to the ability to use EAX, easy method of finding drivers, and the overall quality of each card being high.

Re: Realtek HDAudio (ALC885) suddenly stopped working and produces noise
Thank you zerofire, actually like I said previously, I already bought a new USB sound card, a Cakewalk UA-1G which is about 99€ and happens to be an excellent sound card.

Re: [SOLVED] Realtek HDAudio (ALC885) suddenly stopped working and produces noise
I mark the thread as "solved" as there is no other solution than buying another soundcard. For laptop users, buy a USB soundcard, it will not be worse than using the Realtek HD Audio crap.
