[SOLVED] Need a sound card for a server???
Hello. I am trying something diferent today. I was messing with one of my servers, a Dell Poweredge 1550 with XP on it...Its on the top of my stack... and am thinking of a way to get audio running on it. Any ideas?
I've heard of external usb sound cards too? Do these work, are there any really cheap options? Any ways of rigging it. Just looking for thoughts.. thx.

Re: Need a sound card for a server???
That would be a 1U rack box? I think I remember USB ports on the back of those.
If you just want basic sound a cheap USB stick will work, something like this> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829128004 There are some Maudio high end units also. |

Re: Need a sound card for a server???
I have one like that from plantronics that came tieh a pair of dollar headphones, but tried that and nothing. reboot .nothing.. doesn't even see it as a device.
I'm thinking you have to already have a soundcard to get those to work.. not sure. My plantronics one works on this pc fine.

Re: Need a sound card for a server???
There is this one I ran across on a system that the onboard audio and video wasn't working. So it should not be reliant on the chipset> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829126101

Re: Need a sound card for a server???
I plugged it into my roomates PC and the PlugNPlay from XP popped up and installed the device and showed it as ready to use..so
I checked teh bios adn sure enough, there was a setting that usb was disabled.. DUHH Restarted and works like a charm with the little usb sound card. I hope if anyone else reads this in the future wanting to have sound on a server for whatever reasons add a cheap usb sound card to their toolkit. Can listen to music on there now.. hehe Thanks ![]()
