[SOLVED] Can´t record sound directly using Vista

Hi there!

Having spent multiple days trying to get Vista to directly record sound I´m now in the stage where I will ask others to help me out....

In sound´s second tab (record sound) it shows a microphone being not active. If I choose to activate it doesn´t respond (remains inactive)... This is probably also why Audacity doesn´t recognize appliances to record sound... There must be a way to enable this despite Dell telling me there´s no microphone on board so you can´t record (I do have sound so I´m thinking I could record?!) and despite that I´ve read that Microsoft has deactivated this option to not enable illegal copies (or something like that). I´ve tried to read Audacity´s help regarding this problem however this seems to complex (I don´t speak english excellently) or simply doesn´t work for me.

My system is a Dell Vostra A860 running Windows Vista Home Edition sp1, the (disabled) microphone and playback states Conexant HD smart audio 221 as a driver. If you need any more info please let me know.

PS: I´ve installed all new drivers via Dell´s site (took about 2 hours :-) ) + run through the sticky page concerning sound problems. Doesn´t work...

PS: installing (the wrong) audio drivers from RealTek doesn´t show other devices in the recording tab (download and installating seems to go succesfully but nothing is shown in the damn tab to record sound)

Just to make sure, you are wanting to record sound from something like a web page or another program you are running on your computer?

A lot of times, onboard audio doesn't have, or allow, this option and you will need to get a dedicated sound card to do this?

that´s corrects Pauldo, I for instance would like to record some of the new albums which are on http://3voor12.vpro.nl I could do this through XP by changing the volume control playback to ´record´ but this doesn´t seem possible anymore (one said due to Microsoft now complying to anti copy right laws).

is your second sentence a question or a statement?

i cannot believe that if i can hear audio there is no way to tape/record it...

ps: is the conexant hd smart audio driver for playback and the microphone/recording which I see not a dedicated sound card?

problem solved, finally! yeah...

read http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.p...ndows_Vista_OS and at the bottom there´s this link to freecorder... download it and install it into your browser (automatically) and one can record sound!

Excellent!

I had seen some people complain about how programs such as virtual audio cable didn't work very well so it is good to hear that something does work.
