scratchy sound
i have an asus m3a mvp deluxe motherboard and logitech x530 speakers connected to the onboard sound. today the sound started being scratchy, like some bad reception radio.
the only difference from yesterday is that i added 2 memory modules, but even so, last night after i installed the extra memory, i had nice clear sound. it can't be the speaker either, as i connected them to the laptop and they work fine. i should mention that the laptop is placed right next to the desktop, so it can't be some intereference either. i tried some headphones on the desktop, and they are scratchy too. what makes me wonder is that just yesterday, a friend of mine started having the same problem, just as out of the blue as me. no connection between our computers, no exchanged files, no nothing. could it be some kind of virus affecting the audio drivers or something like that? has anyone heard of anything like this recently? |

Re: scratchy sound
Was there a windows update? I have seen updates install drivers that affected audio. Try re-installing audio drivers from asus' website.
I can tell you that in messing around with my computer, which has onboard audio, I have knocked the speaker cable (going to my X530's) and it started producing a static noise. Moving the speaker cable (it was the green one) around cleared up the noise. I'm leaning more towards the cable being knocked around since you just were inside the computer. Sometimes the audio jacks on integrated audio are not the strongest and it doesn't take a lot of movement to make things go bad. Of course if you just had a windows update, than it could be that too. Let us know how it goes. Pauldo |

Re: scratchy sound
thanks for your help, but that's not it. i found out i can "Solve" the problem by simply rebooting. then after a while (i didn't have time to check exactly how long, but it seems to always be after putting the computer on standby for the night and then resuming it in the morning) the problem comes back. i think it could be related to extra static energy beacuse of the new ram and hard drive, but i have to research that.
