Roll Eyes No audio

Hello

I have a Emachine, model W3615, with Windows Vista. At first the audio work perfectly, but then it stopped working. When I go to device manager it give me code 10 "This device cannot start". It's SigmaTel High Definion Audio Codec. Any advice will be apreciated.

Thanks

Re: No audio

Is there something that happened right before this? Windows update? Added new hardware or software?

Have you tried to re-install audio drivers?

Thanks

Re: No audio

Thnx

No, the sound was suddenly gone. I did a complete System Recovery ( with the cd) but there was no change. I spoke to Emachines supprt and they told me thar I needed a cd to install a driver, cause there wasn't any update for the audio driver . After it they post a an audio driver for download (Sigmatel HD Audio Driver version 6.10.0.5274) wich I did but I still get the message Code 10. So I suppose it's something else but I do'nt know a thing of how to fix it.

Re: No audio

A system recovery in Vista basically just fixes start-up issues (if you are having problems starting windows), not replacing system files, like Windows XP did, so it'sno surprise that it didn't fix anything.

I'm a little confused on what happend with Emachines support. Do you not have the original install CD (with what CD did you do the System Recovery). The original audio drivers should be on that CD. Going to Emachines website, they have all of the drivers for your computer available for download.

Try using the other Audio driver (6.10.5405.0).

Another thing that you could try is to re-install chipset drivers, then reinstall audio drivers. Use the Intel Chipset Driver (8.1.1.1010), not the first one on the list (that is for your onboard video).

Let us know how it goes.

Confused Re: No audio

Yes I did a System Recovery with the cd that came with the pc. What they told me was that I have to purchase a Restore CD to obtain the drivers and application that the system came with. Right now I don't have an asterisk on the Sigma Tel device, it says it's working fine, but still no audio. What I do have is an X on the volume icon it says there's no audio device installed. Thanks for the answer but I don't know how to do what you told me to ( In fact I don't know too much ).

Re: No audio

What does it say in Control Panel >> Sounds > Audio tab? There should be a check mark next to Sigmatel Audio.

I was going off of Emachines website. Use the link that Nexxtech posted. It has your chipset, audio, network and video drivers.

I would download and re-install your chipset drivers first. Use the Intel Chipset Driver (5th one down), not the Video driver.

Then if you still don't have any sound I would try re-installing the Audio driver ending in .5274.

Let us know how it goes.

Re: No audio

Thanks again.

I downloaded the Intel Chipset Driver and re-installed it as you said. It didn't fix it. I also install the driver ending in .5274 and nothing.

Re: No audio

I forgot, the sigmatel driver was ok with high definition audio device it has the green check mark, but when I changed to another one it gave the error code 10 and in the device manager it's highlighted. The volume icon says that there is no audio output device installed not even with the first one.

Re: No audio

Thanks for the screen shots they help a lot.

Would it be possible to get one of Device Manager?

How are you installing these drivers?

What did you change to and why?

Re: No audio

I don't know if I'm installing them correctly I just select them from a list of devices from the update menu in properties (the one that says: Pick from a list of devices) . What I change was the audio device driver from sigmatel to high definition audio device to see what happens it was on the list of devices. But I don't know if this is correct, so finally I did what you told me but there's no change

Thanks a lot

P.S. I attached the screen shot of device manager.

Re: No audio

Noted your network driver is showing the same. Try Microsoft custom updates. May not work for you but let's rule this out.
