No Sound on Vaio with Vista

Hi,
I have a Sony Vaio with Vista. I downloaded AVG anti-viral protection and now my sound no longer works. So, I then uninstalled the AVG. Now my sound sometimes works, and most of the time does not. Has anyone else had this experience? Does anyone have a helpful suggestion to re-gain my sound?
Profuse thanks- ready to throw my Vaio with vigorous force out the window!

Have you tried re-installing drivers?

Yes, I tried re-installing the drivers. Still no sound.

Have you tried a system restore?

Maybe try re-installing chipset drivers, then audio drivers and see if that has any effect.

It sounds to me like your registry has been corrupted and unfortunately it is not as easy to repair this in Vista as it was in XP.

I will ask around and see if anyone else here has any thoughts on the problem.

to load the last good registry tap f8 when booting and choose
last known good configuration
