Xonar d1 vs X-fi Extreme gamer pro fatality

xonar d1 is 84$ and x-fi extreme gamer pro fatality is 65$....
i do lots of music movies and gaming and also like to hook up my receiver sometimes and play throughmy concert speakers instead of my logitech x-540s.. i hear the xonar is better but is it worth the difference?

Re: Xonar d1 vs X-fi Extreme gamer pro fatality

I don't like being the only one answering these questions as audio is highly subjective (and I just answered a similar question) but I thought you should atleast get an answer.

The difference, as I see it, is the better compatibility with their drivers for the D1. Creative, compared to the D1 (D2 is a different story but then it is ~$100 more), actually has the better feature set. It has DTS support and THX certification. Doesn't really matter if you are passing audio thru to a reciever that can do the decoding, however. The problem with Creative is that it seems to have a lot of problems/conflicts with different computer set-ups.

My vote will always be for non Creative cards when your main focus is movies and music. The D1's implementation of EAX appears to be similar to Creatives and it looks like it might be better with headphones than the X-Fi.

Hope that helps.
