Feedback through speakers

Hello one and all,

It seems I am in need of assistance with a sound problem now. I currently own the Logitech X-540 Surround Sound and in the past 24 hours I have been getting an annoying Feedback in the main speakers, but nothing in the sub.

The only change I made before this started happening was upgrading my Power Supply from a 450w to a 650w, it seems that since then, that is when the issue started.

I am using onboard sound, at first the sound had stopped when I disconnected my Mic (which at the time it was extremely loud), now I just have a low noise in the speakers and no matter what I do, I cannot get rid of the sound. I started by turning down/disabling the volume for the Mic, then the inline, after that, I then disabled all volume, turned up my speaker volume and, I still had the noise.

The volume control for my speakers have a port for earphones to go into, I just connected mine and I am getting the feedback noise in them as well. I have my tower and my sub as far as possible from each other as well.

Is it possible that my speakers are already gone and need to be replaced or is even more possible that my new power supply is actually the cause of it?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Feedback through speakers

That's a CoolerMaster 650, right? It's possible that it could be causing the hum. The 12 volt rails are split up, 18a on each. Might be the problem. Best way to tell, however, is to plug in another power supply.

Another thing that I thought of was to jiggle the speaker cables in the audio jacks. I was switching my speaker cables from jack to jack trying to help out another person in the forum when I noticed a staticy hum coming from my speakers. When I re-adjusted the speaker cable (green one) in it's jack the hum went away. I didn't really take it out, just moved it around a bit. Might e worth looking into as you probably removed your speaker wires to install your power supply.

That would be the exact power supply. The only other power supply I have is the 450w and I need the extra wattage. I had already tried removing the cables from the back of the pc and the sub woofer earlier in hopes that it might clear it up.

Re: Feedback through speakers

It was more of a jiggling around, getting it in the right position than actually removing it. It was the removing and plugging back in that gave me the hum in the first place. Probably already did that but just wanted to clarify.

My thought on the power supply was to put it back in, since you had it running before, and see if you get the noise. If it is still there than we can rule out the power supply.
