Help: After format, no audio

Hello,

I've formatted my C drive and re-installed Win' XP Pro Edition (though I think about reformatting and reinstalling XP Home Edition, should I?)...

After that I went to device manager and almost everything was "unknown".. Figured out what to do and installed everything beside the audio..

Now I cant find my audio's card name so I cant download the driver..
How do I find out what's my audio card? Device Manager wont tell me and I tried looking inside the computer (litteraly) but couldnt find it...

Thank you very much.

Re: Help: After format, no audio

Everest might not be much help here but you can give that a shot. Link is in my sig.

Do you know if your audio is onboard or not (probably if you couldn't find it)? Make and model # of your motherboard should get us the right drivers. Or make/model # of your pc (i.e. Dell, HP). If you don't know that than Everest should give a good indication.

I've downloaded Everset..
Can you tell me exactly where to look? Me and computers dont get along very well...

I tried sorting things out, here is what I came up with, maybe it will solve this:

Multimedia
> Audio Adapter - Intel 82801GB ICH7 HD Audio Controller [A-1]..

Another problem Ive just noticed is that under Motherboard, these titles are "Unknown".. Motherboard name, Motherboard Chipset.. How do I solve this? Thank you!

Re: Help: After format, no audio

What is make/model of your Motherboard????
Visit manufacturer's Web Site and download drivers for your Motherboard...
Your audio card is on-board one or you are using an extra one???

It says that on my computer too. I was hoping that I was in the minority with that problem. When I click on the Report button and select 'Hardware-related pages' (then plain text for format) it reports the correct motherboard name under the [DMI] heading >> [ Motherboard ]. It might not be a bad idea to just do that report and attach it to your next post and then we can go over it.

Really need to know who made that motherboard (or computer if it is not a custom build) in order to get the best drivers for you. :)

Re: Help: After format, no audio

Alright, I think we have something here.

First question, though, did you ever install your chipset drivers? I am assuming that you haven't since you don't know the name of your motherboard.

Here is the download page for the Intel D946GZIS motherboard: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2482&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Professional&lang=eng&strOSs=44&submit=Go!

If you have not installed your chipset drivers than I would recommend do so before your audio drivers. It is the first driver listed under Drivers on the download page.

Now for the audio, there are two listed there. Download and install the newest one first (Audio: IDT*92XX Driver). If that doesn't work try the later one (Sigmatel 92220/9221/9223).

Let us know how it goes.

Re: Help: After format, no audio

Ill get on the audio in a second...

I've downloaded the chipset Driver, doubled clicked it and it gives me an error:

The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

What do I do?

Re: Help: After format, no audio

Delete the downloaded file and re-download. Try it again.

Let's hope that works.

By the way, are you able to tell who made this computer. I'm curious and it might help if that problem persists.

Thanks

Re: Help: After format, no audio

Is it a brand name PC like Dell, HP, Fujitsu Siemens, Maxdata or is it custom build????
If it is brand name, than tell us which one is and model...
If it is custom made, open one side of the case and look on the Motherboard for make/model...

Re: Help: After format, no audio

Ya, we need to find out exactly what that mother board is.

As vladimirb said, there should be some numbers/letters on the motherboard, usually between the pci slots. If you can, take a pic of your motherboard (with numbers visible) and we can try and make some sense of it.
