Weird Audio Problem

Hello, I have a problem with my audio on my PC. I don't know what causes it but here goes I will try to explain it in the best way that I can.

Basically, I only get sounds through one side of my speakers. This is also the case when I use headphones, sound only comes out through one ear.

I don't know why but when I plug the audio jack in a certain position in the back of my computer, the sound then will come through both sides. If the plug is fully inserted, there will be sound only on one side. If it's only half plugged, it will be fine.

Obviously this is not normal and if I even touch the audio cable by accident, it will get imbalanced and I will have to plug it in again to find the sweet spot where it actually works.

Any ideas of what the problem is?

Re: Weird Audio Problem

Are you using an adapter?

What is your system specs? Make/model# or motherboard model# if custom build.

Thanks

Re: Weird Audio Problem

It's used to, say, plug an 1/8th inch headphone jack into a 1/4 inch socket. The reason why I asked is that an adapter usually causes this kind of problem as all adapters are not created equal (or rather created with the same dimensions).

I'm not sure that there is anything that you can do as it is probably a bad socket. The only thing that I can think of is if you have a front audio panel hooked up, to check your connections. It should be hooked up for AC'97 for the front panel, not HD audio. I am seeing a lot of problems associated with this but it is typically all or nothing.
