[SOLVED] PC Shuts Off/Retsarts W/New Sound Card
E-machine using windows XP,internal sound card went bad.One of the speakers quit working, after trying new speakers and etc,the sound card is bad.
Put a new sound card in,the SB0570 audigy se,and the speakers work great again.Problem is the pc shuts off.Is it overheating? Take the new sound card out,its fine, doesnt shut down or restarts. We are not sure what to disable in BIOS or elsewhere. We did disable one audio setting in BIOS but it didnt seem to make a difference. (A friend told us that was probably what was wrong) Can you give us some tips to stop the pc from shutting off and restarting? Thank you!

Re: PC Shuts Off/Retsarts W/New Sound Card
Did you uninstall all of the original sound drivers?
Emachines usually have just enough power to run what comes with the original unit. That said I have installed video cards in them and everything was fine. Video cards tend to take more juice than sound cards. You can download HWMonitor and check your temps and voltages. Keep in mind that mobos do tend to pass along wrong values to these programs. Can you post the model#? I can see if I can dredge something up. Last thing, have you tried a different pci slot (if that is possible, i know a lot of those Emachines don't give you much). Pauldo |

Re: PC Shuts Off/Retsarts W/New Sound Card
Ok,an update...
Everything was uninstalled, reinstalled, newest drivers and updates and PC still shuts down randomly and restarts with new card. The e-machine is model is W6409. We also took the cover off the side and placed a fan there to see if there was any overheating issues, that didnt make a difference. I have some friends telling me there is a conflict going on,and others saying its the power supply is probably weak and cant support the new card. The new card, the sound works great, just whats up with the PC??? Its unreal, all this BS over a simple plug and play card eh? ![]() Thanks for any more ideas!

Re: PC Shuts Off/Retsarts W/New Sound Card
While you are troubleshooting this it would probably be best if you turned off automatic restart so that you can get an error code. Here's how you do that:
Right click on My Computer Choose Properties Choose the Advanced Tab In the Startup and Recovery portion click on Settings Under system failure remove the checkmark next to Automatically restart. Click OK until you are out of those windows Now maybe you should try uninstalling Creative drivers, delete any downloaded drivers that you put on the hard drive, reboot, let windows install drivers. You should be able to get basic functions from that audigy and it would clear up whether or not it is a driver conflict. Report back here any Blue Screen error codes. Pauldo |

Re: PC Shuts Off/Retsarts W/New Sound Card
Thanks Pauldo,
Got an update...everything for the audio was uninstalled and started fresh from the beginning. It wasnt until the motherboard got an upgrade/update from a site online, the problem appears to be fixed. The pc has not restarted with this new sound card with the mobo upgrade.I will keep yas posted if it has indeed fixed the problem. Thanks again for your time!
