New laptop audio--cracks and pops

Hey everyone, I just purchased a new Dell Latitude e6400 one week ago with the following specs: 4 GB RAM, 2.26 GHz, 100 GB hard drive, Windows Vista Ultimate.

Whenever I play audio (through headphones or simply through the system speakers), I hear slight "pops" and "crackles" at random intervals--usually every minute or so. It isn't a skipping sound, just a little pop that upsets otherwise perfect audio. I'm using the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC card (I think this is a sound card?), and I've made sure that the drivers are up to date. However, my problem still persists.

Please note that I do not have extensive experience with troubleshooting computers (I know how to do most basic things, but everything after that may be a stretch). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: New laptop audio--cracks and pops

Seems to be a common problem.

One thing that seems to work on a lot of Dell laptops is to turn off wireless, if it is on and you are not using it. Even if you are using it, turn it off and see what happens. Not sure if this applies for the E6400 but the E6500 talks about turning off the A band.

Also saw one guy work around this by un-installing the IDT drivers and use Vista drivers. Might be worth a shot if wireless isn't the culprit.
