Re: no audio controller and no sound at all
Or maybe make and model # of your computer might help.
Typically, this is a driver issue and re-installing the driver helps. Do you have the CD that came with the computer, or audio card if it is an add in card. Pauldo |

Re: no audio controller and no sound at all
I'm having this problem as well,I'm just not getting any audio from my pc,I have installed XP sevice pack 3 and it tells me there is no audio device,I've read about this 118888.exe (or whatever) its called hotfix, but sp3 supposedly already has it,I've downloaded the newest drivers, installed them etc, nothing,I've even tried the UAA installation, still nothing, now I am reading something about sp3 being incompatible with HD audio.
My mobo can switch between HDA and AC97 in the Bios, I think ?,I know AC97 doesn't need the UAA,if I switched and downloaded the ac97 drivers, would that work,I actually downloaded the ac97 drivers but on going to install them,my pc said that they were the wrong drivers etc etc I am at my wits end here,I cannot seem to find the DEFINITIVE answer to thios problem any help much appreciated |

Re: no audio controller and no sound at all
the original poster on this thread would not give us enough information like his make and model of his pc, etc. I do know that this uaa hotfix has fixed some sound issues with sp3
http://files.filefront.com/KB835221e....html#comments if installed first, before the sound drivers. although, the correct drivers should install without this hotfix, but not get sound. if your motherboard chipset has been installed and you would give us your system specs and an Everest hardware report saved in txt and uploaded http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html we can see if we can help you. I don't know about the definite answer either

Re: no audio controller and no sound at all
I have found the answer after a lot of searching
This requires some jiggery pokery with the registry, but,I can assure you all ,IT WORKS Source: http://boredsysadm.blogspot.com/2008...-hd-audio.html 1) Open Regedit and go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Windows\CDSVersion 2) Double-click CDSVersion and change it to 200, then restart your system. 100 (hex) means its sp1 200 (hex) means its sp2 300 (hex) means its sp3 3) Install kb888111xp2.exe (Microsoft UAA Patch which should be available from your Audio driver folder) 4) Install audio driver 5) Change CSDVersion back to 300 (remember this or else you system will think it's still SP2 and many SP2 updates may reemerge in your Windows Update, that's my logical guess anyway  ) 6) Restart your system Happy chappy once more Last edited by koala; 01-04-2009 at 04:33 PM.
