HDMI Digital Audio to TV sound disappears

Hi, I recently bought a TV and connected my laptop via HDMI. My goal like most people is to play DVD, DIVX, or just extend desktop through the TV.

I have:
Compaq Presario Cq50-106ca (laptop)
AMD Turion Dual Core RM70 2.00GHz
3GB Ram
NVIDIAŽ GeForceŽ 8200M G
Vista home premium 32 bit

Playback of Video files is fine for 10-20 mins of playback, until sound disappears and error msg says "audio device removed...", video continues though.

Audio tests emits sound. Default audio output is HDMI digital audio when connected to TV.

Then when restarting the WMPlayer video playback is normal again with sound. -- but after a few minutes audio disappears again. I have uninstalled and

reinstalled audio driver, and updated NVIdia graphics as well. Also when this error happens, no errors show up in device manager. it actually says... working properly even with audio tests.

I've read most of the thread in Audio, but no one seems to have my problem.

Any advice?

Re: HDMI Digital Audio to TV sound disappears

Well, after talking to HP/Compaq, it seems they cannot solve my problem and resulted into system restore. I'll be doing a full system restore and bring it back into factory settings. If the sound still disappears during playback while connected via HDMI to a tv, they said they can have it fixed in their service centers.

I'll be backing up my files now...

i'll post the result in a couple of days

Please do post the results.

I'd be curious as to what the issue was.

Cry Re: HDMI Digital Audio to TV sound disappears

Hello, I've had the same problem for 12 months now. I have 2 desktop HTPC's using HDMI for surround sound, both use vista home premium 32 bit, on one the issue has been solved. That unit has an intel 8400 core 2 duo w/xfx motherboard. I actually have had 4 video cards using HDMI over this time and all 4 have had issues with sound going out randomly. The xfx9800gtx, another 9800gtx+, the sapphire 3450, and the HIS3870. The unit I am still having problems with uses the AMD 6000+ cpu, with Asus M2A-VM motherboard, using the XFX9800GTX+ via the HDMI adapter and the SPDIF adapter which plugs into the gpu and mb. During a movie audio may drop out 3 to 5 times. The intel units problem stopped after an update through vista but I havnt had any success with the other system. I'm hoping someone can tell me what is causing this problem.

Re: HDMI Digital Audio to TV sound disappears

Okay, finally backed up and did a full system recovery. Factory settings in other words. I immediately popped in a DVD, HDMI to the TV, and watched a full movie without any problems.

Which leads me to believe it must be one of several Softwares that i have installed. So i am installing it by phases. First Media Players (itunes, divx, and VLC), then play both dvd and divx files to see if i still get the same problem.

Will post what happens- if my theory is correct, its probably one of the Media Players.

Re: HDMI Digital Audio to TV sound disappears

Well, its back. I think its Divx that's messing with windows and the HDMI audio. while playing a divx file, the HDMI Audio icon disappears. Once I close the reopen the player the Speaker icon goes back. Still have no idea how to solve this. will post updates

Re: HDMI Digital Audio to TV sound disappears

uninstalled divx codec and player. Audio Device still being removed while playing dvd. after re opening application (hp/compaq dvd player) sound comes back. I can't seem to find a pattern in the interval of sound disappearing. it just happens randomly.

other applications i have is itunes and VLC. Applications that have connections with the sound card anyway.

what could be possibly be removing my audio device in the middle of playback, then resumes after reopening the media player application???

anybody there can give me advice?

Re: HDMI Digital Audio to TV sound disappears

Ok, after many many tests. i have concluded that it's best to separate the sound instead of coming out from the TV. Although it is more convenient to control the sound from the TV, it is such a hassle to watch a movie and sound disappears in the middle of a dialogue or action scene.

For this I have attached a separate audio cable out of the Headphone jack of my compaq presario and connected it to a speaker system. Works 100% of the time.

Could it be the processor cannot handle the video and Digital sound via HDMI? could it be the this Low end priced laptop was never really designed to work all the time as the marketing material says it will do? who knows.

Re: HDMI Digital Audio to TV sound disappears

Every time I see you post, paricksantos, I do another search to see if something will come up and there is not much out there on this problem, as I am sure you are aware of.

I did run into this, though: http://www.we-u.com/?p=499

Don't know if you have tried that or not but you and Greg48 have AMD systems so who knows.
