Re: no sound from speakers but when i plug headphones in they work

Can you post your system specs? Make and model # or motherboard make and model if it is a custom build. Also make and model # of any add in sound cards. Might also help to post what speakers you are using.

Also, can you explain were you are plugging in your speakers and were you are plugging in your headphones.

Thanks

Check your audio configuration settings and change your output device to speakers. This might work for you. Location may be in your task bar bottom right. Right click, open.

Re: no sound from speakers but when i plug headphones in they work

Are you plugged into the right jack? double check. Be sure your volume settings in windows is turned up. Not muted. Check that your speakers in audio properties are set to this type of desktop speaker and that the speaker drivers are working in device manager.

Try uninstalling your audio driver in device manager, reboot. When windows restarts it should detect the audio hardware and reinstall your drivers. Follow the set up menu once your hardware is detected. Windows update should have this driver. If not you will have to provide more specifications of your desktop. Good luck!

Re: no sound from speakers but when i plug headphones in they work

I highly doubt that it is a driver issue if your headphones work. But if you want to give it a try it should be either Sigmatel or Creative. Might want to look in Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices > Audio tab and under Sound playback look to see what Default device you have listed. Let us know if you have more than one.

Actually, now that I think about it, now would be an excellent time to see if you have updated audio drivers available. Who knows what it will 'fix', especially if you have Creative in there. Go to http://support.dell.com and ideally enter your Service Tag to download audio drivers specific to your computer.
