Sound Card issues

hi i uninstalled a heap of stuff using "add remove windows components" ie' games calculator paint and everything in the entertainsment folder on the start menu including the volume control i've also lost the speaker icon from my system tray my sound still works but it is very low and i cant turn it up i also miss paint and the calculator , now i have reado other forums and they have said use other programs bla bla bla and some have said to reinstall off the xp disc none of my xp discs will work it says i must use the xp disc i used to format my pc which was a sp2 disc and it asks for a sp3 disc and cancels the install i got the sp3 throught the auto update, is thre a way of reinstalling all these without the xp disc?

Re: Sound Card issues

You need to make an sp3 disc. The process is called slipstreaming and you need your sp2 disc to do so. When you have to do a repair install or use the recovery console, the disc must match both the version (xp home or xp pro) and the service pack. I'm not sure if you can use the add/remove windows components without the right service pack, but it's worth a try. This is located in control panel --> add/remove programs. It's an icon on the left side of the window, but there are times it won't be there and that can be fixed. Anyway, it is best to slipstream sp3 now that you are using it. Here's a link on how to do that, it's not hard, just takes a bit of time is all.
