No sound except in tests

I have no sound. I updated my sound card, it says device working properly. I get sound for all the speaker tests. But when I try to play something, like Media Player or a radio station on the web, I don't get anything. When I open the speaker icon on the bottom bar, it shows that sound is playing, I just can't hear it. Any suggestions? It's as though a mute button has been pushed somewhere, but I don't see it. The computer is a year old and has been working fine. Until now. Thanks

Re: No sound except in tests

Hey GearHead i think we might have similar problems, only mine has something to do do with connecting my laptop to TV with HDMI. Audio Tests work but Audio playback through the TV disappears. I have a compaq laptop and LG tv. I also use Windows Media Player and the default DVD player of Compaq. its weird.
