Sound won't work after power source is disconnected

I have a SONY VAIO notebook (model PCG-5G3L). My sound works fine, but if I disconnect the power source (either from the back of the computer or directly from the wall), the sound will stop working and won't work again until I reboot.

I've done a google search for other people with this problem and haven't found anything. I've routinely download the windows updates and I've gone to my device manager to make sure that my drivers for my sound card don't need to be updated.

Windows says that my sound card is working fine. It is manufactured by Realtek. It also says the speakers are working fine.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Re: Sound won't work after power source is disconnected

Hi,

I have the same model(Sony Laptop, PCG 5G3L) with a similar problem. Except. . .if I stop listening to sound for about 30 seconds, the sound on the entire system shuts off. So the first thing I do everytime I log on is play iTunes at a really low volume so I don't have to "reboot", as you said, whenever I want to listen to audio. Interestingly, though, if I close the lid and open it after all the lights go out, I get sound back.

Like you, I have been unable to find any solutions to the realtek audio driver problem. I have reinstalled the driver a dozen times with no retort. You probably don't get sound through your headphone jack either. . . My logitech USB headset-mic combo gets sound through it all the time, because it has its own audio drivers.

Which has lead me to think that there is some sort of power "leak" in communication between the realtech sound card in our laptops and the motherboard. That is, not a Vista issue and not a driver issue, but purely a hardware issue.

Alas, I have not resolved the problem. . .as I, too, have been bumbling about with it for more than 8 months. Thanks for making the thread, though :), maybe somebody will heed our call.
