No Audio Device Found
I have a Compaq F730US laptop just under 1 year old. I am running Vista Home Premium. I was listening to my I-Tunes when the sound stopped. In the lower right hand side of the computer, the speaker symbol has a red X through it. I try to listen to web based music, whether I try to run on Windows Media, Real Player etc, I receive the "No Audio Device Found" message. Is this a hardware problem or a Driver problem? Please give me a step by step troubleshooting procedure to hopefully correct this. I am not sure what my Audio / sound card is. I believe it is a built in Altec lansing device (How would I verify this?). Please Advise..........Thank You

Re: No Audio Device Found
If you enter Device Management (start key + R, type devmgmt.msc. press enter) you will likely see a red cross or yellow exclamation mark next to one of them. Right click on it and select find/update driver.
If this does not solve it, post back.

Re: No Audio Device Found
to clear it up, go to the control panel, click on classic view and scroll down until you see the 'device manager' icon. double click on that, confirm and a window will pop up. that's the device manager. then follow his steps about the yellow exclamation mark/red cross.

Re: No Audio Device Found
hjt1957, it seems we have similar problem, i connected my compaq laptop via HDMI in the TV and audio plays but stops randomly. When i re open the application it works again. i updated Graphics and Sound card. BTW its NVDIA GeForce 8200M. but when i do sound test it works (the doorbell sound). is anyone having this same problem? Maybe Vista is giving us a problem-
