Sound card install issues

Hi all!
New user here, so hopefully this is the place to come for help!

I got hold of a Creative X-Fi pci express soundcard as i didnt have any spare pci slots left when i installed my new gfx card. It's the first time i've tried connecting with the pci-e x1 slot and presumed it would be as simple as any other plug and play device. Not so however, as i had to find the drivers for the card online (not easy at all!), and even though i've now installed the drivers as per instructions, it still wont recognise the sound card. In the properties it says no device installed! If i try with the non-specific Creative drivers in windows it tells me the device failed to start (so obviously the wrong drivers)!
The onboard sound on my motherboard (its supposed to be Realtek HD audio) has never worked, but when i had a normal pci soundblaster installed before, that worked fine!

Can anyone suggest why it's not working, and how to make it work?
Any help greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Crusty

Re: Sound card install issues

Which X-Fi do you have and which driver did you download?

It's a PCI Express SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio card, and the software for it that included the drivers was the OEM software cd that i found online!

Re: Sound card install issues

First, have you made sure that you uninstalled all of the first Sound Blaster drivers?

For example, Creative recommends, for Sound Blaster cards, that you not only remove drivers via Windows Add and Remove program but also through the device manager.

Might be worthwhile to remove all audio devices this way and start over.

Second, was the software CD for the Extreme or the Platinum?

If you can't tell or the above didn't work than check out this thread, specifically post #11. Make sure you take note of post #17 as it lists the actual download location and a few hints/tips.

Hope that helps.
