New Sound Card and Software for a Laptop:

My problem is one of upgrade. I have been recording my LPs (78 and 33 1/3 rpm) using a turntable, a low end DJ mixer, a desktop computer with a Creative Labs “Sound Blaster Live” sound card. Using Wave Studio to record and edit and an audio filtering program, I was able to record and cleanup the files without eliminating too much content. I have been using this process for years and have allowed tech to pass me by.

I have now purchased a new Toshiba Laptop, running Vista, and would like to continue the recording process. My question to the Forum I hope is a simple one: Is there a Sound Card, similar to Sound Blaster Live, that I can get to plug into my Laptop and software (that runs on Vista) that will record, edit and filter noise from a recording of an LP?

Re: New Sound Card and Software for a Laptop:

There are many usb sound cards on the market today. Creative has a few.

Here's a link to give you an idea of what else is out there.

As for software, I would give Audacity a try. Should take care of all your needs.
