My nephew recently installed new motherboard, D865PERL, on my pc. Since installation of the audio driver I have not been able to get sound from desktop speakers. I keep getting error msg that headphones are connected even tho the headphone jack is disconnected. He has tried everything from uninstalling and reinstalling drivers etc, checking BIOS for defaults with no joy.
Does anyone have any ideas...pls help... Cheers Grunter61 |

Re: Grunter61
It sounds as if you have the speaker connections wrong, either on the motherboard (front speaker connection) or the rear speaker connections.
Is the sound enabled in the bios? Do you get any sounds at all when playing a cd or when windows boots up? What is your speaker configuration (2 spkr, 5.1 etc.)? Do you have any errors in the device manager? Here is a link that may help you resolve this issue. http://www.intel.com/support/motherb...42.htm#nosound It will tell you what to look for. This link may also help you in identifying your sound type. On page 35 it will list the various connections and the type of card you have: http://download.intel.com/support/mo...b/c3176401.pdf The driver for audio should be this one: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...ional&lang=eng You may also need this driver (UAA driver from MicroSoft): http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOU...on-Audio.shtml The owners manual may also shed some light: http://download.intel.com/support/mo...rl_English.pdf |

Re: no sound
It appears that the driver is installed (Soundmax Integraded Digital Audio).
Have you checked the volume settings in the Control panel under Sound and Audio Devices? See if your Audio card shows up (Soundmax) under the Audio Tab Make sure your volume is turn up and not muted under Device Volume. Also click on the advance tab under device volume and see if there is anything muted. Have you tried these speakers on another system? Thanks, Bill |

Re: no sound
Hi Bill,
Have tried and checked all of the above to no avail. The speakers work fine and came from my old system but are only 8mths old. Thanx for tying to help. Will have to get my nephew to check motherboard. Cheers |

Re: no sound
It is possible the MoBo has an issue.
It could have a shorted solder connection, but I would check the connections on the board. You could also disable the On-Board sound card in the BIOS and connect a PCI sound card. Thanks, Bill |

Re: no sound
Cheers Bill,
Will run the last bit past nephew. Sounds, no pun intended, like that might be a simpler solution in the short term & cheaper than new MoBo most likely. Have a good one, will let u know if success is achieved. |

Re: no sound
It is, but if this is a new board it should be working correctly from the start.
I installed a new board in my tower a while back and could not get the onboard sound working no matter what. I went through the manual and all and it drove me nuts. I also ended up putting a PCI card in it. After a little more determination I found that I connected my front speaker jack connections incorrectly. The manual stated one type of connection setup, but the web site for the board had a revised setup for that connection. Just a thought. Bill |
