speakers not functioning

We have lost sound in our speakers. They worked before we left town, now they don't. I have looked around the computer and it looks like somehow they have been uninstalled if this is possible. How can I get them back? Please keep in mind I am not a computer genius, just your average email checker, so the simpler, the better.

Thanks for your help!

Re: speakers not functioning

Go into device manager, to do this, find my computer,,the right click
and select properties, look for the hardware tab, then select devices.
See if you have a yellow or red flag next to sound.
A easier way, is to go to search, then type in device manager, it
should point you the way. If there is a yellow or red flag next
to sound, you may have to reinstall the sound driver, dig out your
motherboard cd, if its onboard sound, or look for the install cd of
your sound card.
Before all of that make sure the speakers are plugged in, power on
and not muted....

Re: speakers not functioning

Ok, so I have already checked all the connections, everything is plugged in. I found the device manager, there are no flags on anything but a + or - sign next to things on the list, next to sounds is a minus so I am assuming that is the same as the red or yellow flag. I cannot locate the cd you are talking about, what exactly am I looking for? The original installation cd for the computer?
