No errors, but no sound. Argh!
Hi all, and thanks in advance for the help - I've got a really weird problem. I got back from a seven week vacation and my audio no longer works. It wasn't even plugged in or used at all during my absence. It isn't the speakers, because I can plug them into an iPod or anything else and they work fine. There are no hardware conflicts in the Device Manager, sound card is default audio device, the whole bit - so I reformatted my computer. STILL, it does not work, even though the drivers install fine and there are no conflicts or problems anywhere! I even tried switching the PCI slot it was plugged into and dusting it off with no luck. It also shows up fine in dxdiag. On top of this, now that the sound does not work, any time I try to watch a video or play music (files or in browsers), it will pause after exactly two seconds no matter what. It did this before the reformat as well, and my computer is squeaky clean from virii. What could possibly be going on here?
Windows XP Intel 3Ghz Processor GeForce FX 5800 Ultra Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 1GB RAM Sad Owner Edit: Also tried adjusting hardware acceleration, plugging into all three output jacks, voodoo rituals... no luck. Last edited by Millsley; 08-15-2008 at 12:56 AM. |

Re: No errors, but no sound. Argh!
I'll try that... but I don't think my motherboard has on-board audio. Is that just the beeps and whistles it makes when it starts up? I don't think it is Windows since I've reformatted and it's worked for 5 years previously. Maybe the card is shot, but it's so strange that there are no errors... I'll give it a shot but not really sure if my mobo has onboard audio. If it does, and it is the card, is there any hope for it?
