only 2 speakers playing music of 6

alright this may be pretty east but im not sure i have a rc110g sony and it says it supports up to 5.1 i have 6 speakers but only 2 have sound coming out of them , excluding sub, do i need to get a diff sound card with 6 channel because it says my computer only has a 2 channel

Of course 5.1 = 5 speakers total (Left Front, Right Front, Left Rear, Right Rear, Center). The "1" refers to the Center or a Sub-Woofer.

To use this capability of your sound card, it must have at least 2 speaker outputs (Front/Rear channels, each handling Left/Right). The Center or Sub-Woofer is usually a tap off the speaker set.

My Sub-Woofer acts as the device connecting to my sound card, and Left/Right speakers are tapped from the Sub-Woofer (Front channel only).

I have seen special sound cards that use special connectors to provide the same functions, but these also require special speaker sets (usually manufactured by the sound card people). You buy the speakers & sound card as a $$$ set.
